Jammu to Srinagar in Just 3 Hours: Indian Railways Announces Timetable for New Trains

In a major boost to rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Railways has announced the launch of new train services between Jammu and Srinagar, including a Vande Bharat Express and two mail/express trains. The highlight of this announcement is the Vande Bharat train, which will cover the distance between Jammu and Srinagar in just 3 hours and 10 minutes, while the mail/express trains will take 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Timetable for the New Trains

The newly announced Vande Bharat Express will begin its journey from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) at 8:10 AM and reach Srinagar at 11:20 AM, completing the one-way trip in slightly over three hours. The return journey will start from Srinagar at 12:45 PM and reach SVDK by 3:55 PM.

Meanwhile, the two mail/express trains will also operate daily round trips, ensuring greater flexibility for passengers traveling between Jammu and Srinagar.

Trains Modified for Winter Operations

Recognizing the unique climatic conditions of the Kashmir Valley, the Indian Railways has made special modifications to the new Vande Bharat train and five fully air-conditioned trains. These adaptations will help ensure smooth and reliable train operations, particularly during the harsh winter months when temperatures often drop significantly, and snowfall can disrupt normal rail services.

An official from the railways confirmed that the six existing trains, including a Vistadome coach train, will continue to operate alongside the newly introduced services.

Future Expansion Plans

While the timetable for trains between Jammu and Srinagar has been confirmed, there is still uncertainty regarding the commencement of direct train services from Delhi to Srinagar. However, railway officials hinted that further announcements may be made soon, offering hope for travelers seeking a direct rail link from the national capital to the scenic region of Kashmir.

New Jammu Rail Division

In another significant development aimed at strengthening railway operations in the region, the Indian Railways Ministry has decided to create a new Jammu rail division. The foundation stone for this new division will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, signaling the government’s commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

The creation of this new rail division is expected to streamline rail operations, improve passenger services, and promote economic growth in the region.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Version Undergoes Speed Tests

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video showcasing the latest development in Indian Railways’ modern train fleet—the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train. This newly manufactured sleeper train has been undergoing speed tests, during which it achieved an impressive peak speed of 180 kmph.

According to the railways, the trials have been successful so far, and the testing will continue until the end of the month. Once fully tested and cleared, this sleeper version of Vande Bharat will offer world-class long-distance travel for rail commuters across the country.

Key Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

  • Designed for long-distance travel, providing comfort and convenience for overnight journeys.
  • Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring a world-class travel experience.
  • Expected to operate on multiple long-distance routes across India once trials are completed.

Conclusion

The launch of new trains between Jammu and Srinagar marks a significant milestone in improving rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. The reduced travel time, especially with the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express, will greatly benefit both locals and tourists visiting the region.

Additionally, the creation of the Jammu rail division and the upcoming introduction of the Vande Bharat sleeper trains reflect Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize its services and expand its network. These initiatives are expected to further enhance rail travel in India, making it faster, safer, and more comfortable for millions of passengers.
